Google Maps, Streets in 3D: Panaramic Photo goes live.

Again and again, google has gone ahead one more time and launched a new feature on Google Map. Thanks to the intuitive navigation system (click on ‘Street View New’ tab on top right, and drag and drop human icon to select where you want to be to see streets in 3D) and a spherical projection technique (well none by Quicktime VR users and panorama addicts), you can easily walk around the street and enjoy this new experience.

For the moment ‘only’ New York and San Jose are available but the quality is impressive. I’m sure other towns and country will follow shortly…

Check this in action by clicking here to jump to Times Square.

This video posted by Barry Schwartz shows briefly this new function in action.

At last but not least, I’m thinking about another service available in France at official yellowpages. www.pagesjaunes.frfrench_streets_photo_browsing.jpg

No Quicktime VR navigation linked with interactive maps but it does the job since a while now!

All of this illustrates very well what could be available on the web in coming months and of course on the next generation of Personal Navigation Device (PND).

Note : First post in English :-) (to test google indexing system)
